A conversation about LEGO® Serious Play®, social impact and why development should travel beyond the person who receives the opportunity.
Bricks for Social Good was created with a clear idea: a scholarship should not be just financial support. It should become impact.
Petar is active across different professional fields, with a strong connection to social causes, youth initiatives, entrepreneurship and inclusion. He joins Bricks for Social Good with a clear intention: to use LEGO® Serious Play® in spaces where more people need to be heard, included and actively involved.
That is why we are proud to introduce Petar Neftelimov, the first Smart Minds scholar in the programme.

What attracted you to LEGO® Serious Play®, and how do you plan to apply it through Bricks for Social Good?

What attracted me was the combination of creativity, structure and real human interaction. It is very different from standard trainings and meetings.

The method allows people to build ideas, solutions and vision with their hands. This unlocks deeper thinking, more honest communication and more active participation.

In my work with JAMBA and different youth and entrepreneurial initiatives, I see how important it is for people to be included in the conversation — regardless of their experience, communication style or personal challenges.

LEGO® Serious Play® creates a space where everyone has a voice and can contribute equally.

I plan to use the methodology in two directions: with young people and entrepreneurs, to support idea development, confidence and teamwork; and in social and educational initiatives connected to the inclusion of people with different abilities.

What would you say to another young professional who is considering applying but still hesitating?

I would definitely advise them to apply.

LEGO® Serious Play® helps us deal better with change, challenges and the process of creating new ideas and solutions. It develops the way we think, communicate and work with people.

The most valuable part is that the benefits do not stay only with the person who learns the method.

They can then support the people around them - friends, colleagues, teams and communities - by giving them space to express their ideas, be heard and find a clearer direction.

You are active across different professional fields, with a clear commitment to social causes and their connection to business. Where do you see the greatest need for better dialogue, innovation and collaboration?

First, science.

Many scientific developments remain unclear or inaccessible to the wider public. When science is communicated in a more human way, more people can understand, trust and build on innovation.

Second, the connection between business, innovation and people.

Every idea, product or service should be created with real benefit for people in mind. Good solutions have no value if they do not reach the people who need them.

Third, the cause.

Sustainable business should have a bigger mission than the product or service itself. But real change does not happen through one-off campaigns.

It requires long-term communication, consistency, innovation and collaboration between business, NGOs, institutions and active citizens.

The Opportunity

Vasil Levski Sofia Airport moves through a generational leap - from a state-managed organisation towards becoming Europe’s first 5-Star Airport. SOFConnect, its operator, recognised that exceptional passenger experience starts with exceptional employee experience.

To support this ambition, the organisation needs a leadership culture where expectations are clear, performance conversations are powerful, and people feel seen, guided, and supported.

That made feedback a critical leadership lever - not simply an HR topic.

The Smart Minds Approach

Smart Minds partnered with SOFConnect’s Learning & Development team to design the Feedback Champions Journey- a long-term organisational development programme aimed at strengthening leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and feedback culture.

Rather than relying on a single intervention, the journey combined several interconnected elements:

  • learning experiences delivered by a specialised training partner, including AI-supported practice environments;
  • a shared framework for giving and receiving feedback;
  • a Feedback Champions Community of middle managers acting as ambassadors of the initiative;
  • accountability mechanisms supporting the application of learning in day-to-day leadership practice;
  • gamified leaderboard increasing visibility, recognition, and engagement;
  • progress tracking through pulse checks, engagement indicators, and programme milestones;
  • a 360-degree feedback process providing visibility on behavioural change over time.

A distinctive aspect of the initiative was the collaboration between Smart Minds, SOFConnect, and its learning partner. While each contributed specific expertise, the programme was designed as one integrated experience.

Smart Minds contributed with the overall concept, programme architecture, implementation design, community mechanics, progress tracking framework, gamification approach, and integration of the programme elements into a coherent change journey.

The Outcomes

The initiative established:
  • a shared framework for feedback conversations across leadership levels;
  • a Feedback Champions Community supporting peer learning and implementation;
  • accountability and progress-tracking mechanisms linked to behavioural change;
  • a structured journey combining learning, practice, feedback, and recognition;
  • greater visibility, ownership, and consistency in feedback practices.

Most importantly, the organisation moved beyond isolated learning events and created the foundations for feedback to become a sustainable leadership habit.

The event used a high-impact team simulation as a catalyst for exploring group dynamics, decision-making, information sharing, and cross-functional collaboration. The simulation created a safe but realistic environment where participants could experience how communication, cognitive biases, different priorities, and incomplete information affect team performance.

The learning was then translated directly into the Swiss business context through structured debriefs, breakout work, World Café exchange, voting, and commitment setting.

AI was already part of the wider business conversation. The opportunity was to move beyond general interest and help leaders understand how AI can become a practical tool for everyday work, better decision-making, and team productivity.

The goal was not to present AI as a trend, but to help leaders explore where it can create real value in their roles, their teams, and the organisation.

The Smart Minds Approach

Smart Minds designed and delivered “Beyond the Hype: Making AI Work for You and Your Team” as an in-house leadership workshop for SOF Connect.

The session combined business context, practical demonstrations, interactive exercises, and hands-on prompting practice. The focus was on helping leaders understand what AI can and cannot do, where it fails, and how to use it with more confidence and critical thinking.

Participants explored AI through several practical angles:
  • demystifying how large language models work;
  • identifying tasks where AI can reduce operational load;
  • using AI as a leadership amplifier, not a replacement for human judgement;
  • developing stronger prompting competence;
  • applying AI to brainstorming, role-play, productivity, and everyday leadership situations.

The process helped the leadership team:

PM Summit & Awards 2025 brought together Bulgaria’s project management community around excellence, growth, and the future of the profession.

For project leaders, the challenge is not only to manage scope, time, and resources. It is also to build clarity, alignment, ownership, and human energy across teams working in increasingly complex environments.

Smart Minds saw an opportunity to support the community beyond a standard event presence - by connecting recognition with real development opportunities for project teams, individual professionals, and volunteers.

The Smart Minds Approach

Smart Minds joined PM Summit & Awards 2025 as a Partner and Exhibitor, organized by PMI Bulgaria Chapter. Instead of limiting the participation to a booth presence, Smart Minds contributed directly to the PM Awards by sponsoring development prizes for the winners.

AUBG Elevate: Turning Startup Ideas into Stronger Business Models

The Opportunity

AUBG Elevate Season 6 brought together eight early-stage startup teams working on diverse ideas - from autonomous robotics and drone delivery to pet care, student applications, consumer products, and local creator platforms.

At this stage of the accelerator journey, the challenge was not only to have an idea.

The teams needed to make their business logic clearer: who they serve, what value they create, how their solution fits the market, and what assumptions still need to be tested before pitching.

The key question was: how do we help young founders move from promising ideas to sharper, more structured business models?

The Smart Minds Approach

Smart Minds was invited to lead a specialised Business Modeling and Business Model Canvas workshop for AUBG Elevate, following a recommendation from Eleven Ventures.

The session was facilitated by Tzvetelina Teneva and combined lecture, practical work, presentation, and open time for questions.

Instead of treating the Business Model Canvas as a static template, Smart Minds used it as a thinking and decision-making tool.

The teams worked on refining the key elements of their business models, with specific focus on:
  • clearer value propositions;
  • sharper customer segments;
  • better connection between problem, solution, and market need;
  • stronger preparation for their final pitches.

The workshop created space for the founders to step back from their ideas, challenge their assumptions, and translate their vision into a more structured business logic.

The Outcomes

The process helped the startup teams:
  • refine their Business Model Canvases;
  • clarify who their solution is really for;
  • improve the way they explain their value proposition;
  • identify gaps and assumptions in their business model;
  • prepare their ideas more effectively for presentation and investor-facing conversations.

The eight participating teams worked across different fields and business concepts: RobotNik, BlazeBox, Bolt Energy Gum, PetLawn, VYNX, Uspei!, Mosta, and Falcon.

The strongest value of the session was clarity.

The teams left with a better understanding of how to connect their idea, customer, value proposition, and execution logic into one coherent business model.

The Impact

By combining structured business thinking with hands-on practice, AUBG Elevate participants moved closer to turning early-stage ideas into pitch-ready ventures.

For Smart Minds, the workshop was a practical contribution to the next generation of founders - helping them build not only confidence, but clearer business foundations.
